Shopify Plus Development Agency

Uptek is a Shopify Plus development agency for ecommerce brands that need experienced developers for complex stores.

We build and support Shopify Plus storefronts, custom themes, checkout extensions, Shopify Functions, apps, integrations and migrations. We can handle a complete project, take over an existing store or work alongside your ecommerce and development teams.

As a Shopify development agency, our work goes beyond the storefront. We look at the theme, checkout, apps, data, integrations and operational requirements that keep the store running.

Shopify Plus Development Services

Our Shopify development services cover the storefront and the systems that support it.

The right solution can be native Shopify functionality, an existing app, a custom application or development specific to your business. We choose based on the requirement instead of adding custom code by default.

We develop Shopify Plus functionality when standard platform features or existing apps cannot handle the requirement properly.

This can include custom product experiences, customer account functionality, B2B requirements, merchandising logic, subscriptions, cart behavior, Shopify Functions, internal tools and store-specific workflows.

For businesses that already have a technical team or active project, you can also hire Shopify developers through Uptek to add dedicated Shopify capacity without changing your existing setup.

We build new Shopify Plus themes and improve existing storefronts using Liquid, Online Store 2.0, JSON templates, metafields, metaobjects and reusable sections.

The theme should give customers a fast, clear shopping experience while making everyday content changes manageable for your ecommerce team.

Our work can involve product templates, collections, navigation, search, carts, custom sections, campaign pages and frontend functionality without rebuilding parts of the store that are already working well.

If you are researching an existing storefront, our Shopify Theme Detector can help identify the Shopify theme it uses.

Shopify Plus gives merchants additional ways to extend checkout through Shopify’s current extensibility framework.

We develop Checkout UI extensions, validation, promotional logic, upsell functionality, tracking and integrations where the standard checkout cannot meet the requirement.

Checkout work should have a clear purpose. That might be reducing friction, supporting a business rule, improving an integration or replacing functionality affected by changes to the Shopify platform.

Shopify Functions make it possible to run custom commerce logic within Shopify’s infrastructure.

We use Functions for requirements such as custom discounts, promotional rules, validation and other logic that cannot be handled through standard Shopify settings.

This became especially important as Shopify moved away from Shopify Scripts, which stopped working on June 30, 2026.

For Joovv, Uptek rebuilt important upsell and promotional logic using Shopify Functions and newer discount APIs. The implementation had to handle campaign-specific rules, including situations where certain offers could combine with influencer codes normally but needed different behavior during promotions such as BFCM.

That is the type of requirement where custom Shopify Plus development becomes useful.

Not every feature belongs inside a Shopify theme.

When functionality requires its own backend logic, admin interface, data processing or integration layer, we can build a custom Shopify app.

Our Shopify app development services cover applications for storefront functionality, internal tools, Shopify APIs, workflow automation, data synchronization and connections with external systems.

We also consider the existing Shopify app ecosystem before recommending custom development. Uptek tracks the ecosystem through our Shopify App Store statistics, which provides additional context around the size and development of the app marketplace.

For larger ecommerce businesses, Shopify Plus is often one system within a much wider technology stack.

We integrate Shopify with ERP, CRM, PIM, warehouse management, fulfillment, subscription, accounting, shipping, marketing and custom internal systems.

Before development begins, we define which platform owns each type of data, what needs to move between systems, how often it should update and how failures should be handled.

That planning helps avoid integrations that work during launch but become difficult to maintain as order volume and operational complexity increase.

A Shopify Plus migration involves more than importing products.

We plan around the storefront, customer and order data, content, URLs, SEO requirements, apps, analytics, integrations and custom functionality that need to continue working after the move.

Uptek can support migrations from Magento, WooCommerce, BigCommerce and other ecommerce platforms.

Our Shopify migration checklist covers the main areas that should be reviewed before launch, including data, redirects, integrations, analytics and post-migration testing.

For established stores, protecting search visibility matters as much as moving the catalog. Redirect mapping, metadata, crawlability and existing high-value URLs should be considered before the new store goes live.

Shopify Plus stores often accumulate apps, JavaScript, analytics tools, campaign code and custom functionality over time.

We review the theme and frontend implementation to identify what is affecting performance without removing functionality the business depends on.

That can include Core Web Vitals, Cumulative Layout Shift, JavaScript, Liquid, third-party scripts, images, mobile performance and key shopping journeys.

Performance also needs to be considered in the context of conversion. Uptek’s ecommerce conversion rate calculator can help you measure your current conversion rate, while our Shopify conversion rate statistics provide broader benchmarks for Shopify stores.

Some businesses need a new store. Others already have a good store and need the right team to keep improving it.

Uptek can take over an existing Shopify Plus implementation or work alongside your internal team on new functionality, checkout changes, integrations, platform updates, campaigns, performance, accessibility and day-to-day technical issues.

Joovv is a good example of that model. What began as Shopify development became an ongoing partnership that has continued since 2019 and has covered several generations of Shopify technology.

PARTNERSHIP

Two Shopify Storefront Versions

We have developed and launched two versions of Joovv’s Shopify store and continue to maintain the storefront today.

The work has included theme development, custom sections, product functionality, campaign pages, frontend improvements and ongoing maintenance.

Instead of rebuilding the entire store whenever requirements change, the storefront continues to evolve around the business.

Online Store 2.0 Migration

Joovv’s previous storefront used ACF to manage custom content.

We migrated the required content architecture to Shopify Online Store 2.0 and rebuilt it using Shopify’s newer theme capabilities.

This gave the team a cleaner content structure, more reusable sections and less dependence on legacy functionality.

Shopify Scripts to Shopify Functions

Joovv relied on Shopify Scripts for important upsell and discount rules.

Those rules were not simple percentage discounts. Promotional behavior changed depending on campaign conditions and which discount codes were being used.

Uptek rebuilt the system around Shopify Functions and newer discount APIs.

Discovery began in September 2024 and the migration was completed in June 2026, before Shopify Scripts stopped working.

Shopify Plus Checkout

We have developed and maintained functionality across Joovv’s Shopify Plus checkout while adapting the implementation as Shopify’s checkout architecture changed.

The objective has remained the same: preserve Joovv’s business requirements without making checkout unnecessarily complicated for the customer.

Accessibility

Uptek spent approximately three months reviewing and improving accessibility across the Shopify storefront.

Work covered areas such as keyboard navigation, forms, interactive elements, images, content structure, visual states, product pages and cart experiences.

Accessibility is now part of Joovv’s ongoing development rather than a one-time project.

Performance and CLS

Apps, campaigns, analytics tools and custom functionality can gradually affect performance as an ecommerce store grows.

We continue to work on Joovv’s frontend performance, including Cumulative Layout Shift, so the experience remains stable as the store changes.

Custom Shopping Experiences

Red light therapy requires more education than a typical ecommerce product.

Joovv’s customers need to understand the technology, compare devices and decide which product fits their needs.

Uptek has helped develop custom experiences around these decisions, including Joovv’s science content, product comparison experience and interactive product quiz.

Shopify Plus Development for Complex Ecommerce Operations

The value of Shopify Plus becomes more apparent as ecommerce operations become more complex.

B2B Ecommerce

B2B stores can require company accounts, custom pricing, customer permissions, purchasing workflows, product restrictions and integrations with existing business systems.

We develop around the way your B2B customers and internal teams actually buy, approve and manage orders.

Multi-Store Development

Businesses operating multiple Shopify stores often need to balance local flexibility with shared development.

We can support stores serving different markets, brands or business units while reducing unnecessary duplication across themes, functionality and integrations.

International Ecommerce

International Shopify Plus development can involve currencies, languages, market-specific content, payments, shipping, tax requirements and integrations.

The technical structure should support expansion without creating a separate development problem every time a new market is added.

Headless Shopify Plus

Headless commerce can provide more frontend control by separating the customer-facing application from Shopify’s commerce backend.

It also adds another application layer that needs to be developed, hosted and maintained.

We recommend headless Shopify Plus when there is a clear technical or business reason for it, not simply because it offers more flexibility.

Our work with Filorga US is one example of a Shopify Plus project where a headless architecture was used for a real implementation.

Why Uptek for Shopify Plus Development?

Shopify Is Our Core Platform

Uptek works across Shopify themes, Liquid, apps, APIs, Shopify Functions, checkout, integrations, performance and ongoing development.

You are working with a Shopify-focused team rather than a general development company treating Shopify as one platform among many.

We Work With What You Already Have

You do not need to rebuild your store to start working with us.

We can review the existing theme, apps, integrations and custom functionality, understand the current architecture and improve it from there.

Native Shopify First

Custom development creates maintenance responsibility.

We use Shopify’s native capabilities when they meet the requirement properly, existing apps when they are the sensible choice and custom code when there is a clear reason to own the functionality.

One Team Across the Shopify Stack

Theme code, apps, checkout, Shopify Functions and integrations often affect each other.

Keeping that development within one team makes dependencies easier to understand and reduces the handoffs that happen when separate vendors own different parts of the store.

Ongoing Support When You Need It

A Shopify Plus launch is not the end of development.

New products, campaigns, integrations and Shopify platform changes continue to create technical work.

Our long-term partnership with Joovv shows how that support can continue as both the business and Shopify platform evolve.

How We Handle Shopify Plus Development

01

Technical Review

For an existing store, we review the parts of the Shopify setup relevant to the project, including theme code, apps, checkout, integrations and custom functionality.

For a new store or migration, we map the required functionality, data and connected systems before development starts.

02

Solution and Scope

We decide what should use native Shopify functionality, what can be handled by an existing app and what genuinely requires custom development.

Dependencies and revenue-critical functionality are identified before implementation.

03

Development

Work is developed and tested in an appropriate environment before changes are introduced to the live storefront.

Complex functionality is separated into testable parts instead of being treated as one large release.

04

Shopify-Specific QA

Testing depends on the type of project.

A migration needs data and redirect validation. Checkout work needs purchase-flow testing. Shopify Functions need promotion and edge-case testing. Integrations need synchronization and failure testing.

QA should reflect what can actually go wrong with the implementation.

05

Launch and Support

After approval, the work is released and the affected customer journeys and systems are checked in the live environment.

The same team can remain involved for future features, maintenance and platform changes.

Is Shopify Plus Right for Your Store?

Shopify Plus is designed for businesses that need more from Shopify than a standard store setup.

That can include advanced B2B requirements, high-volume operations, more checkout flexibility, automation, multiple markets and complex integrations.

But upgrading to Plus should be based on the requirements of your business, not simply the size of the brand.

Uptek tracks Shopify’s wider ecosystem through our Shopify statistics, including data on merchant revenue, customers, conversion rates and the app ecosystem.

You can also review our Shopify merchant revenue statistics for additional context on the scale of commerce happening across the platform.

Shopify Plus Development FAQs

A Shopify Plus development agency builds, customizes and maintains stores using Shopify Plus.

The work can include storefront development, custom themes, Shopify Functions, apps, checkout extensions, migrations, API integrations, performance improvements and ongoing technical support.

We can start with an existing implementation rather than requiring a rebuild. We review the current theme, apps, custom functionality, integrations and relevant technical issues before making changes.

We can take responsibility for a specific Shopify Plus project or provide additional Shopify expertise and development capacity alongside your existing developers.

Yes.

Some engagements are defined projects such as a migration, custom app or checkout implementation. Others continue as ongoing Shopify development and maintenance.

Yes.

Shopify Scripts stopped working on June 30, 2026. Stores that depended on Script Editor functionality need to move supported use cases to Shopify Functions and Shopify’s newer extensibility architecture.

Uptek has already completed this type of migration for Joovv.

Yes.

Shopify Plus provides additional checkout extensibility options, including Checkout UI extensions and Shopify Functions.

The implementation depends on whether the requirement involves checkout UI, promotions, validation, payment logic, shipping, tracking or integrations.

Yes.

A migration can cover products, variants, customers, orders, content, redirects, SEO requirements, analytics, apps, integrations and custom functionality.

The scope depends on your current platform and how much of the existing operation needs to be recreated.

Yes.

A migration can cover products, variants, customers, orders, content, redirects, SEO requirements, analytics, apps, integrations and custom functionality.

The scope depends on your current platform and how much of the existing operation needs to be recreated.

Only when the requirements justify it.

Headless Shopify provides more frontend control but also increases development and maintenance responsibility.

If a standard Shopify Plus architecture can meet the requirement cleanly, adding a headless frontend may not provide enough benefit to justify the complexity.

Cost depends on what needs to be built.

A custom Shopify Function, ongoing development engagement, headless storefront, ERP integration and complete ecommerce migration are very different projects.

We review the existing setup and technical requirements before defining the scope.

The timeline depends on the project.

A focused feature may take much less time than a migration or implementation involving a new theme, checkout, multiple integrations and custom applications.

Dependencies and technical risks are identified during scoping rather than applying the same timeline to every Shopify Plus project.
